Mondi puts the fizz into Coca-Cola HBC Austria’s functional packaging solution

Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, is delighted to launch a new more sustainable sleeve packaging, created to replace conventional plastic shrink wrap around 1.5 litre sparkling soft drink multipacks produced by Coca-Cola HBC in Austria and keep them secure. Mondi’s Hug-IT, which keeps six bottles together during transportation, is made of Mondi’s Advantage SpringPack Plus, crowned by Guinness World Records as the strongest paper in the world.

The Hug-IT sleeve has high tensile strength and incomparable stretchability, so it can be trusted to wrap around the six bottles tightly, keeping them upright and held together during transit – from factory site, to retailer, to the consumer’s home. It will secure 1.5-liter PET multi-packs of the Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Mezzo Mix brands and will be sold in retail outlets throughout Austria. Hug-IT is an innovative solution, and Advantage SpringPack Plus is currently the only paper on the market offering such unique capabilities, being strong enough holding the bottle bundles together as final Hug-IT solution.

Liquid-cooled drives: turning a new page for pulp and paper

The pulp and paper industry has long used variable speed drives (VSDs) to achieve greater energy efficiency and precise motor control. However, some places within a mill present challenges for air-cooled VSDs.

In some cases, especially in older mills, dust regularly clogs the air intakes, or corrosive gas damages them. In others, the heat given off by the drive during operation is undesirable.  Meanwhile, the larger footprint of an air-cooled VSD may be an issue for facilities with limited floor space.

Lenzing completes €۱۰۰ million upgrade in Indonesia

The Lenzing Group has made significant technical improvements to its Purwakarta site (PT. South Pacific Viscose) in Indonesia. Lenzing has invested more than Euro 100 million since 2021 to convert existing production capacity to specialty viscose. Moreover, Lenzing has set the goal of significantly reducing emissions at the site. “The demand for speciality fibres with low environmental impacts continues to grow. We see enormous growth potential in Asia in particular,” said CEO Stephan Sielaff.

Sweden’s minister for schools, Lotta Edholm, who took office 11 months ago as part of a centre-right coalition government, was one of the biggest critics of the all-out embrace of technology.
