The industrial site in Alizay, acquired in June 2022, has been converted by VPK into a sustainable development hub for circular economy. The group invested 200 million euros in the site to convert the existing paper machine into a recycled paper production unit based on carbon-free energy. The site strengthens VPK’s position in the French and European markets through higher vertical integration.

World’s largest paper show, Paperex, will take place 6-9 December, 2023, at India Expo Centre, Dehli, India. Paperex is the largest event in the world attended by paper industry and allied business groups.
Organised biennially in NCR-Delhi, India, it is “A Unified Business Platform for Paper Industry” for new business opportunities, joint ventures, collaborations, investments and technology transfer in paper and all allied industries.

For Papierfabrik Palm’s Wellpappe Alzenau, ground surveys are currently taking place for the new construc-tion of the corrugated board plant in the industrial area of Alzenau-Nord. This is the first step of the project “New construction of the Alzenau corrugated board plant”, which at the same time involves an upgrading of the existing site for the inner city of Alzenau.
The new site of Wellpappe Alzenau is located on the edge of the industrial area Alzenau-Nord. Exploratory drilling is currently underway, which is necessary for the preparation of a building ground report. The soil investigations will be completed within a few days.

Celebration Packaging has introduced a new range of double-wall hot drink cups made from sustainable bamboo fibre, under its long-established EnviroWare brand.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted innovative Swedish company, PulPac, three new US patents, two of which concern the divisional applications from PulPac’s original applications filed in 2016/2017, where one is related to the basic process of Dry Molded Fiber, and the second is related specifically to bottle forming. The third patent concerns the layering of the cellulose web in the Dry Molded Fiber process.

Billerud expects the EBITDA for the 2023 second quarter to be SEK 100-200 million. The lower result is mainly due to significantly lower sales volume and revaluation of finished goods inventory. Kadant starts up OCC systems for Shandong Hechuang Paper in China and Lee & Man in Malaysia

Kadant Fiberline (China) Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Kadant Inc., started up new fiber processing lines at Shandong Hechuang Paper’s facility in Linyi, China, and Lee & Man’s mill in Malaysia.
The new system installed at Shandong Hechuang Paper is a 650 BDMT per day OCC line designed to efficiently produce high-quality containerboard. The new pulping system for Lee & Man’s PM26 in Malaysia features Kadant Foundations fiber processing product line with advanced technologies enabling the mill to yield high quality stock with reduced energy consumption. It is the fourth recycled containerboard machine installed at the facility using Kadant’s fiber process technologies.

Valmet has developed Valmet Brown Stock Analyzer to complement its online pulp quality analyzer family. The analyzer provides high analysis frequency for digester and brown stock washing control in kraft pulping. It is the most robust Kappa measurement for high yield and brown pulp, designed to measure the coarsest pulp starting from cooking blow line.
The pulp sample handling principle minimizes water consumption, ensuring effective operation even with high shive content pulps. A low number of moving and wearing parts minimizes the need for maintenance.

Valmet will supply a Valmet IQ Web Inspection System for pulp dirt count to Ahlstrom’s Aspa mill in Sweden. The dirt measurement will cover the full width of production.
According to Valmet, the target is to improve the line efficiency of pulp drying and to achieve high quality of the pulp.
Valmet’s delivery is scheduled for October 2023.

DS Smith has commissioned Voith to rebuild its PM 4 at the company’s Viana site in Northern Portugal. Producing around of 400,000 tons of kraftliner and high-performance top kraftliner per year, the mill is a market leader in Southern Europe. The extensive rebuild will increase production and improve overall efficiency. Production will expand to around 428,000 tons per year with a machine design speed of 1,100 m/min. The start-up of the project is scheduled for the Q4 2023.

Elopak has announced that it will build a new plant in the USA to better serve its customers in the Americas and accelerate growth in the region.
Elopak will invest around $50 million (including lease liability) in the new plant over the period 2023 – ۲۰۲۴. The investment will be financed by utilizing Elopak’s existing Revolving Credit Facility. The plant is expected to commence production in the fourth quarter of 2024 and will create more than 100 new jobs.

Domtar executives and employees joined state and local dignitaries for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Kingsport Mill grand reopening celebration.
The event marked the completion of the mill’s conversion into our first 100 percent recycled containerboard facility. The two-year project transformed the mill’s uncoated freesheet paper machine into the second-largest 100 percent-recycled containerboard machine in North America, capable of producing approximately 600,000 tons of high-quality recycled linerboard and corrugated medium annually.

Clothing and underwear are among the booming groups of goods in e-commerce. The corresponding shipping packaging must take various factors into account and therefore place high demands on its design.
Südwestkarton created an e-commerce shipping box that makes it impossible to tamper with the packaging unnoticed. The box must be clearly opened to remove the garments. Thanks to this protection against interference, the safety and quality of the goods are maintained and the complaint rate is reduced over the long term.
