Mitsubishi HiTec Paper to hike prices for Giroform carbonless papers

The price increases are inevitable due to the inexorable rise in costs for energy, chemicals and logistics.

Domtar to Indefinitely Idle Espanola Mill in Ontario, Canada

Domtar announced it will indefinitely idle the pulp and paper operations at its Espanola, Ontario, facility for an expected period greater than one year.

The decision will result in a curtailment of Domtar’s annual pulp production by approximately 280,000 air-dried metric tons of northern bleached softwood kraft pulp and approximately 69,000 tons of specialty paper.

The announcement will affect approximately 450 employees.

“The Espanola mill has been challenged for some time now,” said Steve Henry, Domtar paper and packaging president. “We have worked diligently to find a viable path forward for the operation including offering it for sale. Employees affected by this change have earned our appreciation and we thank them for their contributions. We also want to thank federal and provincial officials for their efforts.”

Ahlstrom receives binding offer for Stenay plant from Accursia Capital

In March 2023, Ahlstrom launched a consultation process with employee representatives at its Stenay plant in France about the possibility to divest the plant, and if a buyer cannot be found considering closure.

After a long process to identify potential buyers, Ahlstrom has received a binding offer from Accursia Capital to acquire the Stenay plant. The potential acquisition is subject to consultation with employee representatives.

Kelheim Fibres announced the appointment of Mark von der Becke as Sales Director and a member of the management team. von der Becke, 48, has many years of experience in the areas of sales, marketing and key account management. He has held various management positions in Germany, Switzerland and China at well-known companies such as Hoechst, Clariant and DS Smith.

Voith to rebuild PM 4 at DS Smith mill in Portugal

DS Smith has commissioned Voith to rebuild its PM 4 at the company’s Viana site in Northern Portugal. Producing around of 400,000 tons of kraftliner and high-performance top kraftliner per year, the mill is a market leader in Southern Europe. The extensive rebuild will increase production and improve overall efficiency. Production will expand to around 428,000 tons per year with a machine design speed of 1,100 m/min. The start-up of the project is scheduled for the Q4 2023.
