Georgia-based Pratt Industries Plans New Manufacturing Facility in Peach County

Governor Brian P. Kemp announced that Pratt Industries, Inc., a Georgia-based recycled paper and packaging company, will build a new production facility in the portion of Warner Robins located in Peach County.

The new location will create more than 125 jobs and over $120 million in investment.“We’re proud of great Georgia-based companies like Pratt Industries and grateful for their continued growth here in the No. 1 state for business,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “Expansions like this account for more than 70 percent of last year’s economic development projects and are a testament to our business-friendly and partnership approach as we bring more opportunity for hardworking Georgians.”Based in Atlanta, Pratt Industries is the fifth-largest corrugated packaging company in the United States and the largest privately owned producer of 100 percent recycled containerboard in the world.

“We’re very honored to be coming to Warner Robins and we’re committed to the great State of Georgia – in fact, Georgia is where our company began,” said Anthony Pratt, Global Executive Chairman for Pratt Industries. “This will bring Pratt’s total workforce in Georgia to over 2,100 employees and 11,700 nationwide.”

Stora Enso announces restructuring actions

Stora Enso has progressed with its restructuring actions, announced on 15 June 2023, aimed at strengthening the Group’s long-term competitiveness and creating a decentralised and more customer centric operating model. These actions would reduce the number of employees by approximately 1,150. The parts of the change negotiations completed so far, will result in a reduction of 710 employees.

Stora Enso has concluded the change negotiations at its Sunila site and decided to permanently close pulp production and lignin extraction. The Sunila site has an annual capacity of 375,000 tonnes of long fiber and 50,000 tonnes of lignin. Production at the site has been at a standstill since May and will not be ramped up. The closure will impact 240 employees. The pilot plant for bio-based battery material will, as previously communicated, continue its operations at the Sunila site.

Stora Enso has, during the third quarter permanently, closed down one of the four containerboard production lines at its Ostrołęka site in Poland. The production line had an annual capacity of 120,000 tonnes of recycled containerboard. The closure impacts 50 employees locally.

Norske Skog Bruck is Now Producing Strato Testliner and Strato Fluting on PM 3

Norske Skog announced that the newly converted paper machine, PM 3, at Bruck Mill in Styria, Austria, is now producing Strato Testliner and Fluting.

Norske Skog said PM 3 ‘Emma’ produced her first reel of recycled containerboard at the end of May following a conversion that not only transformed the paper machine, but the entire site of Norske Skog Bruck. The project included the installation of a new multifuel boiler, the construction of a new OCC plant, and an expansion of the facility’s wastewater treatment plant.

Kadant starts up OCC systems for Shandong Hechuang Paper in China and Lee & Man in Malaysia

Kadant Fiberline (China) Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Kadant Inc., started up new fiber processing lines at Shandong Hechuang Paper’s facility in Linyi, China, and Lee & Man’s mill in Malaysia.

The new system installed at Shandong Hechuang Paper is a 650 BDMT per day OCC line designed to efficiently produce high-quality containerboard. The new pulping system for Lee & Man’s PM26 in Malaysia features Kadant Foundations fiber processing product line with advanced technologies enabling the mill to yield high quality stock with reduced energy consumption. It is the fourth recycled containerboard machine installed at the facility using Kadant’s fiber process technologies.

Domtar celebrating the Kingsport Mill grand reopening

Domtar executives and employees joined state and local dignitaries for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Kingsport Mill grand reopening celebration.

The event marked the completion of the mill’s conversion into our first 100 percent recycled containerboard facility. The two-year project transformed the mill’s uncoated freesheet paper machine into the second-largest 100 percent-recycled containerboard machine in North America, capable of producing approximately 600,000 tons of high-quality recycled linerboard and corrugated medium annually.
