PaperWorks Industries has completed the acquisition of The Standard Group. Founded in 1932, The Standard Group is a converter of custom printed paperboard packaging with a manufacturing location in Louisville, Kentucky.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Rengo Group will achieve zero use of coal at manufacturing sites in Japan by 2027. Currently, the Paperboard Production Group’s Kanazu Mill and Marusan Paper Mfg. Co., Ltd. use a total of approximately 125,000 tons of coal each year. Kanazu Mill will convert to the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for fuel in 2026 and Marusan Paper Mfg. in 2027 to fully abolish the use of coal. This will move the Group significantly closer toward achieving the stated target for reduction in CO2 emissions derived from fossil energy.
The Group has also declared in Rengo Group Environment Action 2050 that it is taking on the challenge of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. In addition to the plan for zero use of coal, the Group will implement further environmental countermeasures to achieve carbon neutrality.

The Alizay hub realises a strong circular concept. On an annual basis, the site will reuse 550,000 tonnes of recovered paper coming from a 250-km radius around the mill, minimising CO2 emissions from production and transport. In turn, a biomass boiler and a water treatment plant produce green energy used during the paper production process.

Valmet will supply a Valmet IQ Web Inspection System for pulp dirt count to Ahlstrom’s Aspa mill in Sweden. The dirt measurement will cover the full width of production.
According to Valmet, the target is to improve the line efficiency of pulp drying and to achieve high quality of the pulp.
Valmet’s delivery is scheduled for October 2023.

Scottish folding cartons manufacturer Compack Cartons has moved to a new location and has officially opend the new facility on 31 May. The company, which previously operated from an adjacent unit in the Houston Industrial Estate, reports that the new plant is bigger and significantly expands its production capacities. 26 new jobs are created while 59 existing jobs will be safeguarded.
