Canadian Kraft Paper fined $1M for effluent release in Saskatchewan River

On December 15, 2023, Canadian Kraft Paper Industries Limited was ordered to pay a $1 million fine after pleading guilty at the Provincial Court of Manitoba to one charge under the federal Fisheries Act, one of the largest environmental fines in Manitoba history. The charges stemmed from a February 2019 pipe leak at Canadian Kraft Paper Industries Limited’s pulp and paper mill in The Pas, Manitoba. Environment and Climate Change Canada enforcement officers responded and collected samples. Through a subsequent investigation, they determined that over the course of six days, close to 181 million litres of acutely lethal effluent had been released from the effluent treatment system into the Saskatchewan River.

PulPac reveals a phone tray insert

PulPac, a leader in dry molding technology, announces the latest addition to its “Highway Products”: the Dry Molded Fiber Phone Tray Insert. It is now offered to producers and represents another stride towards PulPac’s commitment to providing cost-effective, environmentally responsibly produced packaging alternatives.

“We understand the importance of balancing sustainability with cost-effectiveness. This Phone Tray Insert shows manufacturers and brands a cost-competitive solution without compromising on their commitment to the planet – a hallmark of Dry Molded Fiber”, says Sanna Fager, Chief Commercial Officer at PulPac.

The Phone Tray Insert addresses the growing demand for eco-friendly alternatives in the packaging industry. Dry Molded Fiber applications, such as the Phone Tray insert, means choosing a cost-effective product with a reduced environmental footprint compared to conventional plastic or fiber-based alternatives.
