Andritz to deliver complete old corrugated containers line to Papel Prensa, Argentina

Andritz has received an order from Papel Prensa S.A. to supply a complete old corrugated containers (OCC) line including a reject handling system to its mill in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In its initial production phase, the new line will process 180 t/d of local OCC. The line’s processing capacity can be easily increased through a minor adjustment to configuration to support the expected rise in pulp demand for the production of corrugated paper. The new line will provide high pulp quality at cost-efficient and resource-saving operation, with the latest technology available.

Diego Colabardini, CEO of Papel Prensa S.A., says: “Our goal is to produce top-quality paper while reducing our environmental footprint through the efficient use of energy and natural resources, based on our strategy of promoting circular economy in a sustainable business. ANDRITZ’s advanced technology and extensive experience in pulping will help us achieve this goal.”

ANDRITZ’s scope of supply comprises

  • the complete LC pulping system with a FibreSolve FSR pulper and an innovative detrashing system to ensure superior slushing of the raw material at minimum fiber loss
  • the protection cleaning, fractionation and screening stage including a PrimeScreen X with newly developed PrimeRotor for high screening efficiency at lower power consumption
  • an innovative reject handling system featuring a Reject Compactor ReCo to dewater the rejects to the highest possible dry content
  • erection supervision, commissioning, start-up, and training

Start-up of the new line is scheduled for 2024.

Andritz to supply high-temperature Yankee hood and air system to Kartogroup, Spain

Andritz has received an order from Kartogroup España S.L. to supply a new high-temperature PrimeDry Hood HT and an air system for a tissue machine rebuild at the mill in Burriana, Spain.

Start-up is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

The new gas-heated hood will enable Kartogroup to achieve a higher drying capacity with a hood design impingement temperature of 530°C, a higher heat transfer rate and a significant reduction of energy consumption per ton of paper produced.

The special set of advanced solutions for the drying section rebuild include optimized impingement distribution of the hood nozzle boxes, a heat recovery system, a state-of-the-art burner management system and Yankee head insulation. Representing ANDRITZ’s latest developments in tissue drying technology, these solutions maximize the heat transfer rate, ensure higher safety, lower emissions and significantly reduce steam consumption.

Suzano again selects Andritz solution for major fluff pulp expansion project

Andritz has received a follow-up order from Brazilian pulp and paper producer Suzano for a major conversion project at the Limeira pulp mill. The project will enable Suzano to increase its eucalyptus-based fluff pulp production capacity from 100,000 to 440,000 tons per year to meet the growing global demand for personal hygiene products. Suzano is the only company in the world producing fluff pulp from hardwood – based on ANDRITZ technology.

Andritz will convert a pulp drying line for bleached hardwood kraft pulp (BHKP) into a line that can switch between BHKP and Suzano’s Eucafluff® pulp. With this project, Suzano continues to expand its highly successful Eucafluff business, which began eight years ago when ANDRITZ converted one of the company’s paper machines to produce fluff pulp from eucalyptus. This was the first time fluff pulp was produced from hardwood, and the rebuilt machine has been running at full capacity ever since. The Eucafluff brand is now well known in the hygiene market as an innovative and sustainable solution. It is approved for use in disposable care products that meet the strict criteria of the EU Ecolabel and the Nordic Swan label for high environmental standards throughout the life cycle of a product.

Andritz to supply dewatering and dispersing equipment to Rondo Ganahl’s paper mill in Austria

Andritz has received an order from Rondo Ganahl AG to supply dewatering and dispersing equipment to be installed in its paper mill in Frastanz, Austria.

Start-up is scheduled for end of 2024.

This upgrade will help the customer make his paper mill fit for the future to meet growing demands in the production process. ANDRITZ will replace the complete dewatering and dispersing equipment, which will increase the capacity of the system up to 230 bdt/d. Centerpiece of the new technology will be a Twin Wire Press, type TWP2833L, which will feature a custom-tailored modular design optimized for the limited space conditions at the installation site. The ANDRITZ Twin Wire Press is perfectly suited for dewatering all types of fibers, but especially when a high pulp dryness or the separation of water loops are required. ANDRITZ will also provide the basic engineering, supervision of erection, commissioning, and start-up as well as the operator training.

Andritz starts up largest high-kappa fiberline in China for Nanning Sun Paper

International technology group ANDRITZ has started up a state-of-the-art, highly efficient fiberline and lime kiln plant at Nanning Sun Paper’s pulp and paper mill in Nanning, Guangxi Province, China.

Zang Zijia, Project Director, Nanning Sun Paper, said, “Start-up of the fiberline and lime kiln went very smoothly. The project progressed quickly, the start-up test was completed within one month after feeding, and now the equipment is running stably. We will definitely continue working with ANDRITZ in the future to further increase our capacity and efficiency.”

The ANDRITZ supply was on full EPS (Engineering, Procurement, Supervision) basis and included the following:

  • The largest high-kappa fiberline in China with a capacity of 1,600 adt/d. The hardwood line includes a TurboFeed chip feeding system, Lo-Solids continuous cooking, blow line refiners, screen room, LC refiners and highly efficient washing with a multi-stage DD-Washer drum displacer washer, a GF-Filter advanced vacuum drum filter washer and a COMPACT PRESS wash press.
  • An energy-efficient lime kiln plant with a capacity of 450 t/d burnt lime, including a LimeDry lime mud washing and dewatering filter, a LimeKiln feeding system, a LimeKiln shell, riding rings, roller sets and driving mechanism, as well as a LimeCool and a LimeFire burner.

ANDRITZ has signed an agreement with Flowserve Corporation based in Texas, USA, to take over its

NAF AB engineers, designs and builds Flowserve’s NAF control valve portfolio. It is a leading supplier with long-standing experience in providing process control valves for pulp and paper and other related industries. With 50 employees at the facility in Linköping, Sweden, it has been a successful provider of process control valves for more than 100 years.

This acquisition further extends and strengthens ANDRITZ’s product and service portfolio in the field of process control. With this acquisition, ANDRITZ, a leading provider of process control and automation systems for complete pulp and paper mills, is adding control valves to its portfolio of process actuators, analyzers, and measurement equipment for the pulp and paper making process. Andritz to supply the first methanol liquefaction plant to Japanese pulp industry

Andritz will supply a methanol liquefaction plant to Japanese unbleached kraft pulp producer Hyogo Pulp Industries Ltd. The plant will be installed at the Tanigawa mill to replace fossil-based support fuel with renewable liquid methanol, a by-product of the chemical recovery process. This is the first plant of its kind in the Japanese pulp industry.

“With this investment, we are taking our first step toward becoming a biorefinery,” said Naoki Ikawa, Representative Executive Director of Hyogo Pulp Industries, Ltd.

Gutex produces first fibers for insulation board with new Andritz fiber preparation system

Wood fiber insulation board manufacturer Gutex has successfully produced first fibers with its new ANDRITZ fiber preparation system in Eschbach, Germany. This is the second system ANDRITZ has delivered to GUTEX.

Oliver Bauch, Plant Manager, GUTEX, says: “The new line will perfectly support the environmentally friendly production approach for our ecological insulation board products. Thanks to the excellent cooperation and the great effort of the whole ANDRITZ team we were able to produce first fibers even ahead of schedule.”

Andritz to supply a pressurized refining system to Sonae Arauco

Andritz will supply a pressurized refining system to Sonae Arauco Deutschland GmbH’s mill in Meppen, Germany, to produce wood-based insulation products. This will be the 15th insulation board production line equipped with an ANDRITZ pressurized refining system, confirming ANDRITZ’s strong position in the industry.

 

The new line will process a mixture of wood chips from different types of timber to produce insulation boards for the construction industries. Start-up is scheduled for 2025.

Andritz to rebuild Holmen paper machine for flexible production of book and packaging paper

Andritz will rebuild a paper machine at Holmen Paper’s Braviken mill in Sweden to provide maximum production flexibility.

Start-up is planned for autumn 2024.

This order follows Holmen Paper’s recent successful entry into the packaging market with an innovative lightweight corrugated board product. The rebuild of PM52 will enable Holmen Paper to increase the production of fluting for corrugated boxes. ANDRITZ will implement a sophisticated technology concept allowing to easily switch production between the different paper grades.

The international technology group, Andritz, has achieved a successful startup of the newly delivered carding machine and opening/blending line at Albis in Roasio, Vercelli, Italy. This strategic investment marks a significant milestone for Albis as it positions itself to address evolving market demands and manufacture innovative nonwoven products tailored for applications in hygiene and medical sectors.

The newly installed machine, boasting an impressive working width of 5.10 meters, enables the production of customized nonwoven fabrics designed to meet precise customer specifications while upholding exceptional properties and consistent quality standards. A prime example is the Albis Curacell®, a multilayer composite nonwoven fabric with a weight range spanning 35 to 70 gsm. Sappi Saiccor signs long-term service agreement with Andritz

Dissolving pulp producer Sappi Saiccor signed a three-year service contract with technology group Andritz for two recovery boilers operating at the mill in Umkomaas, South Africa.

The two Andritz boilers producing 230 tph of steam at 490°C and 86 bar have been operating since 2008 and 2021 respectively. The service agreement will help the Saiccor mill maintain safe and efficient operation while improving the reliability and availability of the boilers.

The scope includes operation support, engineering support, pre-shutdown services and annual shutdown services such as mechanical and process inspection, as well as an advisory service for boiler washing and boiler repair and replacement works.

Saiccor mill, situated 50 km south of the port of Durban, produces elemental chlorine free (ECF) dissolving pulp (DP), mostly for the export market. It is one of the production facilities of Sappi group, a leading global provider of everyday materials made from wood fiber-based renewable resources.

Moorim P&P, South Korea, invests in HERB recovery boiler from Andritz

Andritz has received an order for a new HERB recovery boiler including advanced digitalization solutions to be installed at Moorim P&P’s pulp and paper mill in Ulsan, South Korea.

The delivery will increase the economic and environmental sustainability of the mill’s operations.

The contract signed with power plant supplier SGC eTEC E&C includes the engineering and main equipment supply for the boiler, digitalization solutions (ANDRITZ autonomous recovery boiler solutions) for maximum use of the boiler’s potential, and an ash treatment system.

Replacing two existing boiler units, the new HERB boiler will enable more efficient chemical recovery from the black liquor at lower emissions. Together with a new steam turbine, it will also significantly increase the mill’s renewable energy production. Thus, the delivery will make mill operations more self-sufficient, economical and sustainable. HERB recovery boilers are part of ANDRITZ’s broad portfolio of sustainable products that the company keeps advancing and expanding.

This order is a result of a long-lasting cooperation – ANDRITZ has provided process upgrades to Moorim P&P’s boilers for several years. “Our collaboration with ANDRITZ has already brought valuable continuous improvements to our Ulsan mill,” says Kim Sangwoo, Executive Director, Moorim P&P.

“This order is taking our relationship with Moorim P&P to the next level. We at ANDRITZ are grateful for the trust placed in our team and our technology,” said Henrik Wikstedt, Vice President, Recovery Boilers at ANDRITZ.

Moorim P&P’s Ulsan mill produces bleached kraft pulp and different types of high-quality paper. Established in 2011, it is Korea’s first and only integrated pulp and paper mill.

Greenply produces first fibers with new Andritz pressurized refining system

Greenply Industries Limited has successfully produced first fibers with its new high-performance pressurized refining system from ANDRITZ at its MDF (medium-density fiberboard) production facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

CenturyPly produces first fibers with its new Andritz pressurized refining system

CenturyPly successfully produced first fibers with its recently installed ANDRITZ pressurized refining system at its medium-density fiberboard (MDF) production plant in Punjab, India. At the same time, the company placed an order for another ANDRITZ pressurized refining system for its MDF line in Andhra Pradesh, India. This will be the third system supplied by ANDRITZ to CenturyPly.

DS Smith to install Europe’s largest FibreFlow drum pulper at Porcari paper mill in Italy

International technology group Andritz has received an order from DS Smith to supply a complete stock preparation line and an innovative reject treatment system for the mill in Porcari, Italy, that produces new packaging papers from 100% recycled paper. The stock preparation line includes Europe’s largest FibreFlow drum pulper.

The equipment provided by Andritz will be used on the new paper machine, due to start up mid-2025, that will provide a range of paper grades for the FMCG and e-commerce sectors serviced by DS Smith.
