Andritz to supply the first methanol liquefaction plant to Japanese pulp industry

Andritz will supply a methanol liquefaction plant to Japanese unbleached kraft pulp producer Hyogo Pulp Industries Ltd. The plant will be installed at the Tanigawa mill to replace fossil-based support fuel with renewable liquid methanol, a by-product of the chemical recovery process. This is the first plant of its kind in the Japanese pulp industry.

“With this investment, we are taking our first step toward becoming a biorefinery,” said Naoki Ikawa, Representative Executive Director of Hyogo Pulp Industries, Ltd.

One Equity Partners to sell Walki to Japan’s Oji Group

One Equity Partners announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Walki Holding Oy, a pan-European supplier of sustainable and high-performing packaging and engineered materials solutions, to Oji Holdings Corporation, a Japanese paper products technology company.

 

Founded in 1930 and headquartered in Espoo, Finland, Walki is a specialty packaging materials manufacturer, offering consumer and industrial packaging for food and specialty consumer products, as well as engineered materials, such as insulation and fire-retardant facings, sustainable membranes, and protective clothing applications. The Company has 17 production facilities worldwide and employs more than 1,700 people. OEP’s acquisition of Walki closed in July 2018.

Daio Paper to reconstruct damaged boiler

Japanese Daio Paper Corp. will spend approximately 19 billion yen to reconstruct the boiler at its subsidiary, Iwaki Daio Paper Corp., based in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, according to a press release from the company.

The accident occurred on September 6, 2022.

Daio’s Board of Directors, at its meeting held recently, voted to approve a boiler reconstruction plan calling for  the adoption of recurrence-preventing measures addressing multiple presumed causes of the explosion based on the accident investigation report.

The Daio Group is working to realize, through business activities, its management philosophy, “Shaping an  abundant and affable future for the world.” In its business activities, the company will continue making efforts to ensure stability in product quality and reduce the environmental load through the effective use of natural resources while giving top priority to safety.

Nippon Paper starts cooperative marine transport with Daio Paper

Nippon Paper Industries started cooperative marine transport between the capital region and the Kansai area, Japan, in cooperation with Daio Paper Corporation.

Nippon Paper Industries has provided long distance truck transport to supply the business communication paper produced at the Nakoso Mill to the Kansai region.

Daio Paper uses the RORO ships of Daio Kaiun Co., Ltd. to transport the paper and board products produced at its Mishima Mill from Mishima-Kawanoe Port (via Sakai Senboku Port to Chiba Chuo Port) to supply the products to the capital region and the Tohoku region.
