Asia Symbol brings in ABB to provide manufacturing execution system at three tissue mills in China

As Asia Symbol Group, one of the biggest wood pulp producers in China, expands its pulp and paper business into tissue manufacturing, it has selected long-term strategic partner ABB to deliver the ABB Ability™ Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and system integration at three of its tissue mills in China.

This latest contract for mills in Guangdong, Shandong and Jiangxi affirms the strong, long-standing relationship between ABB and Asia Symbol, part of the global RGE Group (Royal Golden Eagle).

In recent years, this has seen the provision of paper machine drives and quality control system (QCS) products, and the successful extension of ABB’s MES service to Asia Symbol’s three fine paper production lines in Guangdong.

Kadant Noss AB, a subsidiary of Kadant Inc., has announced its agreement to deliver a Green Liquor System upgrade to the Södra Cell Mörrum Mill in Sweden. This order encompasses the provision of a green liquor clarifier, dregs precoat filter, engineering services, and on-site support.

Mörrum Mill is a specialized facility with two distinct production lines. One line manufactures a wide variety of premium paper pulps, while the other is dedicated to dissolving pulp for textile and other applications, featuring the innovative OnceMore® process.

Sappi Saiccor signs long-term service agreement with Andritz

Dissolving pulp producer Sappi Saiccor signed a three-year service contract with technology group Andritz for two recovery boilers operating at the mill in Umkomaas, South Africa.

The two Andritz boilers producing 230 tph of steam at 490°C and 86 bar have been operating since 2008 and 2021 respectively. The service agreement will help the Saiccor mill maintain safe and efficient operation while improving the reliability and availability of the boilers.

The scope includes operation support, engineering support, pre-shutdown services and annual shutdown services such as mechanical and process inspection, as well as an advisory service for boiler washing and boiler repair and replacement works.

Saiccor mill, situated 50 km south of the port of Durban, produces elemental chlorine free (ECF) dissolving pulp (DP), mostly for the export market. It is one of the production facilities of Sappi group, a leading global provider of everyday materials made from wood fiber-based renewable resources.
