Bracell recently announced the start of civil works for the largest tissue mill in Latin America. The unit is being built next to Bracell’s pulp mill in Lencois Paulista (SP). In all, the company is investing R$ 5 billion in the city, R$ 2.5 billion of which in the construction of the tissue mill, which is expected to start operating in 2024, and the other half of the amount for investment in a plant production of sodium chlorate and hydrogen peroxide, chemical components used in the pulp production process.

Essity has signed an agreement with a buyer and the transaction has been approved by the Russian authorities, it said, adding that the deal was expected to be finalised during the second quarter of 2023.
The world’s second-biggest consumer tissue maker began work on exiting the Russian market in April, after taking a writedown of about 1.7 billion crowns ($157.25 million) on its assets in the country, the statement added.

Suzano, the world’s largest producer of hardwood pulp, and Sofidel, a leading European tissue paper producer, today announced “Together we plant the future”, a landmark three-year pilot project which will advance ecological conservation and restoration, alongside supporting socio-economic development in the Amazon region in Brazil[1]. This will be delivered with support and on-the-ground implementation from the Brazilian Institute for Development and Sustainability (IABS) and Amazônia Onlus, an Italian non-profit active to defend the forest and the people of the Amazon. This region was selected because some of Suzano operations are located in that area.

Liansheng Pulp & Paper has successfully started up two ANDRITZ tissue machines including stock preparation and automation systems at its mill in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China.
The tissue machines of the type PrimeLineTM W 2000 have a design speed of 2,000 m/min and a working width of 5.65 m. Both are equipped with energy-saving components like 20 ft. PrimeDry Steel Yankees and steam-heated hoods.

The Leipzig-based manufacturer of testing equipment for the pulp, paper, tissue and board in-dustry will present solutions to automate quality control and improve product quality from June 12-14 at the XV Scientific and Technical Conference and Exhibition INPAP 2023 in Lodz.
The INPAP Conference, hosted by the Centre of Papermaking and Printing at Lodz University of Technology, brings together industry professionals to present scien-tific research regarding new developments in the manufacture of pulp, paper, tissue and board. Emtec Electronic will be attending the event as an exhibitor to present its array of testing solu-tions, including devices for measuring the surface charge (zeta potential) and assessing the min-eral filler content of paper and board. Metsä Group, through its tissue business Metsä Tissue, has made a decision to modernize and expand the Mariestad tissue paper mill in Sweden. The investment will increase the availability of locally and sustainably produced tissue products in the Scandinavian market, in which approximately 40% of tissue usage is currently imported. The value of the investment is Euro 370 million and it is one of the largest in the tissue business in Europe and the largest within Metsä Tissue. The construction works will start during spring 2023 and the renewed mill is planned to be operational in the second half of 2025.

Supplied by Toscotec on a turnkey basis, PM3 had come online at Essel’s Osmaniye mill in Turkey in October 2021.
