Panda Paper Mills (1997), a subsidiary of Israeli leading manufacturer Sano Enterprises, has selected Toscotec for the supply of a complete drying section rebuild of PM1 at their Netanya production facility in Israel. PM1 produces high quality tissue from recycled fibres for the Away from Home market. The upgrade aims to substantially increase the machine’s drying capacity and is planned for the second half of 2024.
Toscotec will supply a TT SYD Steel Yankee Dryer of latest generation, the entire steam and condensate removal system and high-efficiency TT Hoods. The service package includes the engineering, erection supervision, training, commissioning and start-up assistance. The new dryer section is set to slash PM1’s energy consumptions and increase production efficiency.

Sonoco has added two new cold seal structures to the growing family of EnviroFlex® Paper products receiving How2Recycle® Widely recyclable pre-qualification. EnviroFlex Paper Ultimate (ULT) 1.0 CS and Advanced (ADV) 4.0 CS are the first of their kind to bring cold seal properties to curbside recyclable paper packaging. This results from Sonoco’s ongoing efforts to develop and provide a range of innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to meet the challenging needs of consumer-packaged goods companies in today’s competitive market.
The ULT line of paper-based packaging has high oxygen, moisture, and grease barrier, ideal for moisture sensitive applications like pet treats and products containing nuts. The ADV line provides optimal performance for medium level oxygen and moisture barrier applications, like confections and powdered products.

New EU Rules Risk Flood of New Plastic Packaging and Contradict Years of Progress to Curb Plastic in the EU

The EU is close to agreeing new rules around packaging and packaging waste, but amendments proposed to the Commission’s proposal risk flooding the market with millions of tonnes of new plastic and rolling back a decade of measures to curb plastic use, according to DS Smith, the FTSE 100 leader in sustainable packaging, paper products and recycling.
Amendments to the Commission’s proposal for a Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) are being debated by MEPs and Member States, and proposed changes include introducing mandatory reuse targets for all materials.
