Following extensive analysis of its operating footprint and the long-term supply of economic residual fiber, Canfor Pulp Products Inc. is announcing the decision to permanently close the pulp line at its Prince George Pulp and Paper Mill, which will result in a reduction of 280,000 tonnes of market kraft pulp annually. The Specialty Paper facility at the site will continue to operate.

U.S. printing-writing paper shipments decreased 1% in November 2022 compared to November 2021. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers increased 13% in November 2022 compared to the same month last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels increased 9% when compared to October 2022, according to the American Forest & Paper Association

Metsä Board’s Kemi mill in Finland recently reached the milestone of fifteen million tonnes of premium kraftliner on the 12th of December 2022.

The Kemi mill has been a forerunner in the product development of coated white kraftliners. Production of brown kraftliner started in 1971 and the capacity was 180,000 tonnes per year (tpy).

Central National Gottesman Inc. (CNG) announced today that it has signed a definitive purchase agreement to acquire S.P. Richards (SPR), an independent business products wholesaler based in Atlanta, Georgia. The closing is expected to take place on January 31, 2023.

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) reportedly is resuming production at its Jackson, Alabama paper mill, bringing about 400 employees back to work.

According to local news reports, PCA last week informed workers that the mill would resume production Monday, Jan. 9.

Canfor Corporation is announcing an extension of sawmill curtailments in British Columbia (B.C.) due to ongoing weak market conditions and the lack of available economic fiber. The production capacity will be reduced through two-week curtailment extensions in January at select solid wood facilities in B.C. This will remove approximately 21 million board feet in addition to the 150 million board feet previously announced on December 5, 2022.
