the average price for lumber exported from Sweden in November 2022 decreased 8% compared to the previous month and amounted to $247 per m3.

This is 39% less than a year ago when it was $407.

Valmet to rebuild cooking, fiberline and evaporation plant for Andhra Paper Limited in India

Valmet has been selected to rebuild the cooking, fiberline and evaporation plant of Andhra Paper’s Rajahmundry unit in India. The delivery is scheduled to take place in December 2023, and the start-up is planned for the first quarter 2024.

The order is included in Valmet’s order received of the fourth quarter 2022. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

The Kemi mill has been a forerunner in the product development of coated white kraftliners. Production of brown kraftliner started in 1971 and the capacity was 180,000 tonnes per year (tpy).

Canfor extending temporary curtailments in British Columbia, Canada

Canfor Corporation is announcing an extension of sawmill curtailments in British Columbia (B.C.) due to ongoing weak market conditions and the lack of available economic fiber. The production capacity will be reduced through two-week curtailment extensions in January at select solid wood facilities in B.C. This will remove approximately 21 million board feet in addition to the 150 million board feet previously announced on December 5, 2022.

In November 2022, the average price for lumber imported to China slipped 0.1% compared to the previous month at $259 per m3.
This is 14% less than a year ago when it was $299.
The imports of lumber from China contracted 6% year-on-year to 2,323.3 thousand m3 in November.

Russian plywood production falls 38% in November

In January – November, Russia decreased plywood production by 28% y-o-y to 3.0 million m3. According to Rosstat, production of plywood in November fell 38%.

Russian companies continue to export plywood to the U.S. despite high duties and low prices. In October, Russian producers exported 52 thousand m3 of plywood to the U.S., which is 29% less than a year earlier.
